YEAC Boosts SME Growth with RCEP Workshop in Phnom Penh

The Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia (YEAC) supported a workshop on the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) Workshop, organized by the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia in collaboration with the Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) project. The workshop aimed to enhance the Cambodian private sector’s understanding of the benefits and opportunities provided by the RCEP agreement.

The event provided an overview of trade regulations, customs procedures, and rules of origin, with the goal of encouraging Cambodian businesses to actively engage in and benefit from international trade.

Key Objectives of the Workshop:

  1. Strengthening SME Understanding of RCEP Benefits
    • Increase awareness among private sector stakeholders, including women-led SMEs, about trade in goods under RCEP.
    • Highlight the role of RCEP in fostering a freer and more favorable regional trade and investment environment.
  2. Enhancing Knowledge of Export and Import Requirements
    • Provide technical guidance on export and import procedures within the RCEP framework to enable SMEs to maximize the benefits of the agreement.
  3. Facilitating Experience Sharing Among SMEs
    • Create opportunities for SMEs to exchange insights on exporting to and importing from RCEP markets.
    • Focus discussions on specific products, target markets, opportunities, challenges, and strategies for overcoming trade-related barriers.

By empowering SMEs with the knowledge and tools to navigate the RCEP agreement, the workshop aimed to promote economic growth and enhance Cambodia’s participation in regional and international trade.
